Keith A. Hummell, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, at Heritage Nursing & Rehab, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment with military honors will be held at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Keith was born Oct. 4, 1935, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, the son of Owen and Francis (Shirmer) Hummell. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and attended Parson's College in Fairfield, Iowa. Keith married Nancy Mason on Feb. 22, 1958, in Mount Pleasant. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960, serving alongside Elvis Presley. Keith worked for the railroad for 35 years, spending most of that time with Rock Island Railroad. He was a member of American Legion Post 572, Fairfax, Iowa. Keith loved to hunt and fish, and instilled his love of the outdoors in both of his sons. Pheasant hunting also was a love of his and he was an excellent shot. He was an avid sports fan, especially football, having played in high school and college. Keith will be missed by many and especially by his dog, Buddy.
Keith is survived by his loving wife, Nancy of Cedar Rapids; children, Kurt (Michelle) Hummell of Cedar Rapids, Jason (Jennifer) Hummell of Keystone, Iowa, and Brenda (John) Conyn of Spencer, Iowa; grandchildren, Ross, Adam, Joel, Luke, Paul, Janie and Jolie; and siblings, Mary Koble, Kenny (Connie) Hummell, Bob Hummell, Henry (Mary Lou) Hummell and Fran (Tom) Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Ryan Emken; sister, Leola (Donald) Prottsman; and brother-in-law, Dale Koble.
