Keinroth, John C.
John C. Keinroth, 64, of Independence, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence. Inurnment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where a military memorial service will be held at 7 p.m.
John was born Oct. 28, 1946, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Frank and Clarice (O'Neill) Keinroth. At the age of five John moved with his family to Oelwein, Iowa, where he graduated from high school. He attended North Iowa Community College, Mason City, for several years. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from July 10, 1969, through July 9, 1971. Following his discharge John became employed with the Fareway Stores, working in Ottumwa before becoming store manager in Independence in 1991. He was married to Renee M. Kanne on March 20, 1990, in Las Vegas, Nev.
He was a member of the Independence Rotary, Independence Ambassadors, American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Renee; three sons, David (Piper) Keinroth of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jeff (Lisa) Keinroth of Waukee and Andrew Keinroth of Independence; two grandchildren, Mason and Hutton Keinroth; a sister, Barb (Bernard) Shannon of Oelwein; and a brother, Frank Keinroth of Enid, Okla.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Gail Keinroth, in infancy.
