Keil, Mila M.
Mila M. Keil, 83, of Maquoketa, died Monday, June 27, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, with the Rev. James Chappell and Deacon Bob Head officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be held at 3:30 p.m. Visitation also will be held on Friday one hour before service time at the church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa.
Mila Mae Medinger was born Feb. 8, 1928, in Jackson County, Iowa, to Albert and Mary (Scheckel) Medinger. She graduated from high school and attended nursing school in Illinois. She was united in marriage to Wallace M. Keil on June 1, 1957, in Springbrook, Iowa. He died April 27, 1987. Mila was a registered nurse with Dr. Frank and at Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa, retiring in the early 1990s.
She was a very active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Raphael No. 1156, Maquoketa. Mila volunteered at Sacred Heart School for many years. She enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center and the nursing homes. She liked to go to coffee with her colleagues and watching her grandsons athletics.
Mila is survived by her three children, Jody (Tom) King of Manchester and Keith Keil and Rick Keil, both of Maquoketa; two grandsons, Nathan and Ryan King; three sisters, Lillian (Ed) Trenkamp of Preston, Arlene (Bill) Berger of Sioux City and Maxine Sullivan of Goose Lake; a brother, Vincent Medinger of Maquoketa; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers,
John and Vernon “Bud” Medinger; and one sister, Florence Heiar, who died April 12, 2010.
Memorials are preferred.
