KEEJA AHN
Cedar Rapids
Keeja Ahn, 73, passed away peacefully on Nov. 14, 2014, at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's Hospital.
Keeja is survived by her brother, Dr. Yang (Haya) Ahn; younger sisters, Okja (Dr. Seong Woo) Min, Hyun Sook (the late Dr. Hong Yeul) Park and Bum Ju (Dr. Jung Min) Lee; and many nieces and nephews.
She was assisted by her local family for many years, including Eileen Ahn, Rochelle Ahn and Dr. Peter Ahn.
Keeja was born Dec. 10, 1940, in Tokyo, Japan, to Yoon Chul Ahn and Hyang Lee Ahn. Her family moved back to South Korea in 1945. She was valedictorian at Kyung Gi Girls High School in Seoul, South Korea, the top female high school in the country. She graduated from the Liberal Arts College of Seoul University, where she was an English major and female class president. She came to the United States in 1975 and worked as a computer programmer until mental illness prevented her from continued employment.
Keeja will be remembered as the most talented and gifted person throughout her years of school and work. Sadly, her full po-tential was never realized due to schizophrenia.
She had a wonderful smile, she cared for those around her as she was often the youngest resident of the nursing home, and she had an honest, innocent way of declaring things the way they were.
Keeja's family would like to thank all of the individuals involved in her care throughout her years in Cedar Rapids at Evergreen Estates, Silver Pines, Living Center West and UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's Hospital.
A family memorial service will be held at a future date.
Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
