Keating, Shirley M.
Shirley M. Keating, 60, of Monticello, died at the home of her sister on Thursday, July 14, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was formerly of Center Junction. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Temple Hill. The Rev. Doug Loecke and the Rev. Mike Keating will officiate. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, where there will be a prayer service at 2:30 p.m.
Survivors include two sons, Bernard (B.J.) and his wife, April, of Waukee, and Patrick and his wife, Becky, of Olin; a brother, Gerald (Connie) of Cascade; three sisters, Sharon (Dean) Meyer of East Dubuque, Ill., Lois (Rick) Scott of Epworth and Vickie Holub of Monticello; and three grandchildren, Brookelyn, Nathan and Tucker.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Shirley was born June 9, 1951, in Cascade, the daughter of Clarence “Shorty” and Hazel (Behrends) Breitbach. She married Tom Keating on April 4, 1970, in Cascade. They were later divorced. Shirley was a secretary at Affordable Asbestos Removal in Monticello for many years.
Shirley was a member of the Eagles Club and volunteered with Above and Beyond Hospice. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards and golf, going to the casino and especially the time she spent with her beloved family and many friends.
Memorial donations may be given to Above and Beyond Hospice in Shirley's name.
