Kearns, Shirley
Shirley Kearns, 82, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton, with the Rev. David Gates officiating. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Shirley Oma Kearns was born April 13, 1928, in Newton, Iowa, the daughter of Roscoe and Wilma (Rogers) Brock. She was raised in Newton and Cedar Falls, graduating from Iowa State Teachers High School before attending Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On June 12, 1949, she married John Kearns in Cedar Falls. Shirley and John farmed near Vinton for more than 60 years. Shirley was a farm wife who enjoyed garage sales and playing cards with friends in her spare time.
She is survived by her husband, John; her son, Dan and his wife, Myra, and their sons, Lukas and Maxton, all of Vinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Charles; and her sister, Jeanette.
A memorial fund has been established.
