Kaye Marie Running, 75, of Dubuque, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 3200 Asbury Rd., Dubuque, with the Rev. DeWayne Teig officiating. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the service time Thursday at the church. Committal services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, May 12, at Center Point Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Lehmann officiating. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion is in care of arrangements.
Kaye is survived by her husband, George Running of Dubuque; son, Nathan Running of New York, N.Y.; daughter, Kristi Running of St. Paul, Minn.; and two cousins, Keith Bull of Springfield, Ill., and Dennis Bull of California.
Kaye was preceded in death by her father, Keith A. Dennis (1950); her mother, Irma M. (Paulda) Dennis (2017); and her sister, Dee A. Dennis (2013).
Kaye was born Sept. 3, 1941, in Center Point, Iowa, the oldest daughter of Irma and Keith Dennis. Kaye attended Center Point schools, received her bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa and her master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado. While in graduate school, Kaye met George Running and they were married June 8, 1968. Kaye taught physical education and coached basketball at Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids and at Senior High School in Dubuque. She later worked at the Iowa Welcome Center and Inside Decor, both also in Dubuque.
Kaye was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter MP, the Sunshine Circle at Finley Hospital and volunteered with the Iowa Games. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing bridge, tennis and pickle ball, watching sports and was an avid cook. Kaye will be remembered for her positive outlook, willingness to help others and her joy of life.
Kaye was cared for by many over the years and especially this past year. The family would like to thank her caregivers and friends for their support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Sunshine Circle of Finley Hospital, Hospice of Dubuque or a charity of the donor's choice.
