Kay Alison Morgan, 87, of Ladora, passed away peacefully at the Marengo Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at Smith Funeral Home in Victor with the Rev. Jim Davis, pastor of the Ladora and Victor United Methodist churches, officiating. Keyboardist will be Marna Mohr. Pallbearers will be Chase Hansen, Jack Harden, Gary Hash, Charles Hawkins, Brian Herzberg and Fritz E. Kinzenbaw. Honorary bearers will be Tim Daniels, Lou McMeen, Rand Garringer, Mark Shaull, Neil Shaull and Tom Shaull Jr. Burial will be in the Ladora Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kay Morgan memorial fund, benefiting the town of Ladora.
Kay was born on May 25, 1930, in Ladora, the daughter of Mel and Bernice Shaull Augustine. She attended public school in Ladora and graduated from Ladora High School in 1948. She then went on to Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and later Iowa Wesleyan University in Mount Pleasant studying education and earned her degree in 1950. She taught school for a year and then began her career as a secretary with Augustine Insurance Co., a family owned business in the Ladora area for many years.
On Nov. 19, 1955, she was united in marriage with Charles Arney Morgan at the Ladora United Methodist Church. They started their marriage in Newton and later moved to Worthington, Minn., and then Sioux City. The couple moved to Ladora in 1963, where they lived the rest of their lives. She was a member of the Ladora American Legion Auxiliary, Elks Lodge and Iowa Wesleyan Alumni Association.
Kay held a great love for her family and enjoyed a strong bond with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed socializing and having a good time with her family and friends. She bowled with friends on Tuesdays for many years and went to the Bistro in Ladora on Thursdays. She could shop anytime and for anything! She loved dancing and was a devoted fan of the "Dancing With the Stars" TV series. She and her husband, Chuck, traveled extensively throughout the United States and places abroad. For many years, she and Chuck also wintered in Texas and following his death, she traveled with her niece and friends.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Lois (Lee) Kovar of Victor; three grandchildren, Sheila (Mark) Kotouc of Dysart, Stan (Gabby) Kovar of Ladora and Mark (Karly) Kovar of Ladora; five great-grandchildren, Garrett, Brooke and William Kotouc of Dysart and Charlotte and Maverick Kovar of Ladora; and her niece, Linda Nowotny of Wilmington, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1979; brother, Neil Augustine; and her great-grandchild in infancy, Charles Kotouc.
