Kaupins, Andris (Andy)
Andris (Andy) Kaupins, 59, of Monroe, Iowa, died suddenly at his home Friday, Nov. 5, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 8300 C Ave. Marion, Iowa. The Rev. Perry Fruhling will officiate at the service.
Andy was born Feb. 7, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Rock Valley High School, Iowa. He received a B.A. in psychology from Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, and an M.A. degree in library science from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa.
He served high school libraries at various Iowa locations. They include Le Mars, Indianola, Davis County (Bloomfield), and PCM (Monroe). He was also librarian in Kaplan University, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Andy enjoyed listening to music, especially pop tunes from the 1960s and 1970s. He often entered radio trivia contests and won often. He played tennis and won a tournament in Bloomfield.
He loved history and kept current with the latest pop culture and enjoyed visits to historical sights.
Andy is survived by his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Alfred and Skaidrite Kaupins of Cedar Rapids; brother, Dr. Gundars Kaupins and his wife, Debby and nephew Kyle in Boise, Idaho; stepchildren, Stephanie Anderson and Geoff Farrell; two stepchildren, Michael and Ryan: and a good friend, Linda Shatto.
He is greatly missed by his family and friends.
