Kauffman Sr., James Warren
James Warren Kauffman Sr., 89, surrounded by his family, went to be with his Savior on Friday, June 24, 2011. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church, by the Rev. David O'Connor. A vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where family and friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m., and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Warren was born in Millville on Jan. 25, 1922, to Wayne and Lucille (Landis) Kauffman. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1946, he moved to Cedar Rapids and began working for Iowa Steel and Iron Works, retiring in 1984. On Nov. 27, 1948, he married Fonda Oliphant and they raised seven children. He loved his family, enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening, being outdoors, music and telling a good story while playing cards.
Warren is survived by his wife, Fonda; seven children, Jim (Becki) Kauffman of Greenville, S.C., Terry (Barb) Kauffman of Lisle, Ill., Patty Kauffman, Paula Snow and Mike Kauffman, all of Cedar Rapids, Timothy (Dodie) Kauffman of Marion and Kathy Hampton of Jesup; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Anola Keegan, Faye (Jim) Sperfslage and June (Bob) Auman; and two brothers, George (Mary) Kauffman and Russell (Betty) Kauffman.
He was preceded home by his parents, Wayne and Lucille Kauffman; brothers, Lowell, Cyril, Clair and Clark Kauffman; sister, Marjorie McDowell; and grandson, Jacob Hampton.
Warren was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family.
The family would like to thank the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy and the 8th Floor staff at Mercy Medical Center for the wonderful care given to Warren and his family.
