Kauffman, Emogene Elaine
Emogene Elaine Kauffman, 81, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, died at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. She was born in Delaware County, Elk Township on September 1, 1929, the daughter of William Henry and Frieda (Waterman) Parkinson. Emogene attended Elkport School until she entered the ninth grade and attended and graduated from Maynard High School. After graduation she was employed by City Laundry in Oelwein, and also cared for the Dale Wolfe family while his wife was sick.
On March 16, 1951, Emogene was united in marriage to Clifford Kauffman in Oelwein. Together they farmed west of Strawberry Point on the same farm from 1951 until 1978. Emogene also worked as a tax preparer for Ray Fliehler. Clifford died in February of 1983. She had a special friend, Jim Nading, who was a part of her life until his death in 2001.
Emogene loved her garden, birds, especially cardinals, and enjoyed fishing and camping on her extensive travels. Emogene was a member of the Strawberry Point United Methodist Church and a leader of the Strawberry Point American Legion Auxiliary for several years.
Survivors include her two sons, Clifton (Linda) Kauffman and Eugene (Christine) Kauffman, all of Strawberry Point; seven grandchildren, Bridgette, Oakley, Hillary, Rachel, Sarah, Olivia and Alan; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Darold (Mary) Parkinson of Wood Center; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Penney of Eugene, Ore., and Delores Kauffman of Independence; one aunt, Helen Waterman of Edgewood; and nieces and nephews.
Emogene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford; and a special friend, Jim Nading.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Strawberry Point United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer's Unit at the Lutheran Home.

Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Strawberry Point. Pastor Randy Moser will officiate. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point and one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at the Cass Township Cemetery, Strawberry Point.
