Kathy L. Patten, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died of heart failure at her home on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017. Services at 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Per Kathy's request, the casket will be closed. Funeral Mass: St. Rose Catholic Church and entombment at the Gethsemane Cemetery in Lima, Ohio, at a later date.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph; a son, Wayne (Gail) of Fairfield, Ohio; a daughter, Angela (Gary) Rohret of Swisher; a sister, Linda (Greg) Martz of Lima; and a brother, David Bowers of Lima. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Samuel, Noah, Erin, Maxwell and Riley; and her cat, Sophie.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gary and Michael Bowers.
Kathy was born Aug. 26, 1947, in Lima, Ohio, the daughter of Jack and Helen Early Bowers. She married Joseph P. Patten on Dec. 10, 1966, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Lima. Kathy was a homemaker. She was a member of the Welcome Wagon Club and Glenmary Missionary Guild. She volunteered and did fundraising for several community organizations.
Kathy enjoyed fishing, traveling and was an avid bridge player. She will forever be remembered as a generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. A memorial fund has been established.
