Kathy Sue Haugen (Mrs. Steve Haugen), 63, of Decorah, passed away July 16, 2016, at Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian after a long illness.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Richard Simon Hanson presiding. Burial will be in Union Prairie Cemetery, rural Decorah. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave., Decorah, and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Kathy Sue Maschmann was born Sept. 15, 1952, to Harvey and Gwen (Robinson) Maschmann of Millersburg, Iowa. She graduated in 1971 from Deep River-Millersburg High School in Deep River. In 1976, she was united in marriage to Everett Hemrich. The couple later moved from the Millersburg area to rural Riceville, where she was a homemaker. To this union three children were born: Scott, Samantha and Sonya. She later worked at the Riceville nursing home and did daycare out of her home. After Everett died in 1989, she met and married Steve Haugen of Decorah on Dec. 23, 1995. They made their home in the rural Ridgeway area for a number of years before moving to the Haugen family farm near Decorah.
Kathy was employed with the Cresco Shopper in Cresco and worked for the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah for 15 years.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Steve Haugen, Decorah; her children: Scott Hemrich of Ridgeway, Samantha Hemrich of Austin, Texas, and Sonya (Steve) Meyerhofer of Grand Meadow, Minn.; her stepchildren, Stephanie Haugen and Sara Haugen, both of Decorah, and Scott (Alison) Haugen of Gilbert, Ariz.; grandchildren, Colton, Wyatt and baby boy Meyerhofer, Hope Haugen, Callie Edie, Steven and John Baldridge, Elliot, Aiden and Mae Haugen; her mother, Gwen Maschmann of Millersburg; two brothers, John (Marojie) Maschmann of Clinton and Ron (Sherrie) Maschmann of Millersburg; two brothers-in-law, Ron (Rossana) Haugen of El Paso, Texas, and Dave (Jan) Haugen of Indianola; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Everett Hemrich, on April 5, 1989; her father, Harvey Maschmann; two brothers, Larry and Dennis Maschmann; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman and Darlene Haugen.
