She married John "Bud" Barnes on Dec. 31, 1945, at the E.U. B. Parsonage in Morley. Kathy was employed for 33 and a half years at Collins Radio as a utility leader. She was also a union steward for IBEW Local 1362. She retired in 1985. Her dream was to buy Reese's Pony Farm on the Ridge Road and the couple accomplished that in 1960. Kathy volunteered at hospice, driving people to and from treatments. She crocheted in her spare time and gave many prayer shawls to friends and patients.
