Kathy A. Weldon, 74, of Wayland, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, at Parkview Home in Wayland. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at the Beatty Funeral Home, Washington, with Pastor Jason Collier officiating. The family will greet friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County and the Iowa Alzheimer’s Association.
Kathy Ann Weldon was born Feb. 2, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Virginia (Young) Leonard Jr. She graduated from Johnston High School in 1966 and continued her education at Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa graduating with a liberal arts degree. She was united in marriage to John Weldon on Sept. 26, 1970, in Johnston, Iowa. She provided daycare for many years and enjoyed writing, reading and nature.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth McAtee of Henryville, Pa., and Anna Gillis of Crawfordsville, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Christian (Cassie) McAtee, Caitlyn (AJ) Blatzheim, Caiden, James, Anastacia and John McAtee, Seth and Sierra Gillis; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kerry Leonard of Grimes, Iowa, and Kris Phipps of New Virginia, Iowa; and one brother, Ralph Leonard, III of Marshalltown, Iowa.
