Kathryn Yoder died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at Pioneer Park in Lone Tree at the age of 95 years.
Kathryn was born July 2, 1919, on the family farm in rural Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Urie and Amanda (Wertz) Miller. She graduated from Center High School in 1937.
On June 1, 1939, she was united in marriage to Henry M. Yoder at her parents' home in rural Kalona. Kathryn was a homemaker and worked with her family on the farm. In February 1950, they moved to the Lone Tree area to minister at Swank Church, where Kathryn was active in the ministry of the church. They purchased a farm near the church and farmed until moving back to Kalona in June 1987. She was a member of East Union Mennonite Church.
Kathryn is survived by three daughters, Eileen (Ray) Gooch of Grand Junction, Colo., Mary (Dennis) Grimm of Kalona and Corrine (Dennis) Walker of Riverside; three sons, Merle (Leah) Yoder of Topeka, Ind., Loran (Diane) Yoder and Kent (Rhonda) Yoder of Lone Tree; 11 grandchildren, Meredith Yoder, Ryan Yoder, Zach Grimm, Darren Yoder, Derek Walker, Chad Yoder, Kyle Yoder, Jordan Walker, Amanda Gooch Miner, Jessica Grimm Vilovchik and Laura Yoder Ford; 13 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Arlene Miller of Kalona; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1998; three grandchildren, Joanna Grimm in 1977, Brad Walker in 1996 and Ben Gooch in 2003; and a brother, John Wertz Miller in 2007.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at East Union Mennonite Church, 5615 Gable Ave. SW, rural Kalona. Pastor Firman Gingerich will officiate. Burial will be in East Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona.
A general memorial fund has been established.
