Kathryn A. Wessel, 81, a resident of Davenport, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Kathryn will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 10, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 18th St., Bettendorf. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., Davenport, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. There will be additional visitation at the church on Friday before the Mass from 10 to 11 a.m.
Kathryn Ann Miller was born Jan. 24, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the only child of Paul and Anne (Grubhoffer) Miller. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids and went on to graduate from Coe College with a degree in teaching. She was united in marriage to David D. Wessel on May 10, 1958, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
Kathryn taught in Cedar Rapids and was employed with the Davenport School District, retiring after over 20 years of service.
She enjoyed playing bridge and card games. She spent many hours volunteering at organizations throughout the Quad Cities, including Cafe on Vine, delivering Meals on Wheels and working at the Discovery Shoppe, just to name a few. She cherished the time spent with family and friends at their cabin on Twin Lakes.
Kathryn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who was sweet, kind and generous to everyone.

Survivors include her loving husband of over 58 years, David; their children, James (Maria del Castillo) Wessel, Lynda (Todd) Kitzmann and Karen (Craig) Ford, all of Bettendorf, and Teri (Jason) Rexroth, Cedar Rapids; her 10 beloved grandchildren, Kyle del Castillo, Eric, Jordan (Ali) and Alex Kitzmann, Ben and Ryan Hillebrand and Luke Ford, Jaxon, Jevin and Taylor Rose Rexroth; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Dan (Janice) Wessel, Moline, Ill., John (Carol) Wessel, Grays Lake, Ill., Dennis (Sandy) Wessel, Cedar Rapids, Mary (Bill) Keel, Hiawatha, and Jeff (Marla) Wessel, Cedar Rapids; numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family; her special friends, Barb Buckles, Bettendorf, and Diane Rios, Davenport; her many "Bridge buddies"; and loving companion, her dog, Maggie.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
