Kathryn "Kay" M. Randall, 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed on to the House of Our Lord
surrounded by her family at St. Luke's Hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015. Funeral services: noon Monday, Dec. 28, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: one hour before the service. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery after the service. Casual attire is appropriate for guests attending the funeral.
Kathryn Marie (Schwab) Randall was born April 26, 1926, in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Anna (Frank) Schwab. She grew up in Osage and worked at Cedar Valley Produce, an egg drying plant, during World War II. Kay married Ransom H. Randall on Sept. 20, 1947, in Osage, where their three children – Mike, Sue and Adam – were born. They later moved to Cedar Rapids. Kay regularly attended Mass at St. Ludmila's Church.
She was an accomplished gardener, raising both flowers and vegetables. Kay enjoyed cooking and baking and her German dishes were sumptuous! She loved hosting her family on the holidays, especially on Christmas.
Kay also was a dedicated Hawkeye basketball fan, sometimes with strong words as she had a strong will.
Kay is survived by her husband, Ransom; her son, Mike (Paulette) Randall; her daughter, Sue (Thomas) Elias; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members, including Buster the dog and Lucy the cat.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Adam; two sisters; nine brothers; Taffy the dog and Missy the cat.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family may be sent to Stewart Baxter or to a charity of your choice.
Finally, Kay's family wishes to thank the entire staff at West Ridge Care Center and St. Luke's Hospital for their dedicated care and compassion during Kay's illness.
Please share your support and memories with Kay's family on her tribute wall at www.stewartbaxter.com under obituaries.
