Kathryn C. Phares, 88, a resident of Village Place in Marion, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum columbarium. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Kathryn is survived by three daughters, Susan (Michael) Hauer of Iowa City, Nancy (Thomas) Jensch of Woodruff, Wis., and Wanda (Michael) Cummings of Swartz Creek, Mich. She also is survived by seven grandchildren, Derek Hauer, Tyler, Conner and Ahren Jensch and Benjamin, Samuel and Maxwell Cummings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; an infant daughter, Nadine; and all four brothers.
Kathryn was born Jan. 15, 1926, in Canton, Minn., the daughter of Walter and Hazel McMaster Cocker. She married James W. Phares on April 15, 1952, in Rochester, Minn. Jim passed away in 1988.
Kathryn was co-owner of J.W. Phares Co., Wholesale Florist, with her husband for many years. She was very involved and a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Kathryn enjoyed traveling, not only in the United States but all over the world.
Her greatest joy was the time spent with her many friends and beloved family. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memory donations may be given to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
