Kathryn Pearl Benischek, 95, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. A visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. with a service to follow at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 24, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of memories. The burial will follow at Cedar memorial Park Cemetery in the garden of Mount Moriah.
Kathryn was born Aug. 9, 1927, in Waterloo, Iowa. After attending high school, Kathryn worked for Hinson Manufacturing while attending Waterloo School of Beauty Culture, where she graduated in 1946, and eventually began working in Pitzie’s Beauty Salon. Kathryn moved to Cedar Rapids in 1952 and took a job with Collins Radio on the assembly online.
Shortly after, she met her future husband, Lester Benischek through a mutual friend. The two married on Feb. 18, 1956, in Waterloo, Iowa. The couple farmed near Toddville for the next 39 years. Lester passed away in 1995. Together, they had two sons, Randy (Wendy) Benischek of Atkins and Mark Benischek of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters, Megan (Derek) Peet of Hiawatha and Marissa (Jordan) Denison of Independence; and one great-grandson, James Alan Denison.
During their farming years, they started a sideline business, making and selling concrete lawn ornaments. Kathryn always enjoyed visiting with customers that came out to see her shop. In 2001, she sold the farm, retired and moved to Cedar Rapids. Kathryn enjoyed a long and healthy life.
