Heaven has received another angel: Kathryn "Kate" J. Bradley, 86, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Family will greet friends and family from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, at Marion Free Methodist Church, located at 2690 25th Avenue in Marion. The Rev. Peter Shaw will officiate. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Center Grove Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa.
Kate was born on May 19, 1935, the daughter of Harvey and Evelyn (Ulrich) Beresford, in Epworth, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Bradley on May 22, 1956, in Galena, Ill. Kate worked out of her home as a childcare provider for over 30 years. She started by watching her grandchildren, then numerous other children that became family, and finally her great-grandsons. Kate was affectionately named "Grandma Kate" by her daycare families and all who loved her. After retirement, she enjoyed attending her grandchildren's school and sporting events. Kate loved baking, sewing, doing puzzles, playing cards, gambling, trips to Branson and attending church at Marion Free Methodist. She adored and loved family time, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandsons. Kate will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Kate is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Susan Grace, Sandra (John) Tibor and Robert G. (Karla) Bradley, all of Marion; grandchildren, David Benesch, Holly (Corey) Baxa, Bradley Tibor, Emily Grace (fiance Trey Davis), and Brandon and Adam Bradley; two great-grandsons, Bryce and Breyton Baxa; brother, Keith (Jane) Beresford of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Erwin Schuettpelz of Marion; sisters-in-law, Mary Link of Franklin, Wis., and Barb Schroeder of Dubuque; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Lou Bellmann of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Evelyn Beresford; husband, Robert Bradley; stepmother, Rosemary Beresford; siblings, Hazel Schuettpelz, Robert (Carole) Beresford, Beverly (Leonard) Helbing, Wendell (Mary) Beresford, Charles Beresford and Carolyn Beresford; brother-in-law, William (Verna) Bradley; and her loving canine, Sami.
