She was born Oct. 10, 1937, to John and Marie Cilek and grew up on the family farm near Solon. Kathryn graduated from the Solon Community School District in 1956. She was united in marriage to Roland Henik on March 4, 1957, and set up residence on a family farm in Mount Vernon. Kathryn worked alongside her husband Roland in taking care of the animals and working long hours to bring in the harvest each fall. She loved living on the farm. Each spring, she planted and nurtured a beautiful flower garden and loved sharing its beauty with many visitors. She was also known for her kolache baking skills and was especially proud of her Czech heritage. Kathryn passed on her passion for animals (especially horses), flowers, music and painting to her grandchildren. Kathryn was a lifetime member of the Women's Franklin Township Friendship Club, an active parishioner of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, a member of the Solon Garden Club and past board member of the Saints Peter and Paul Historical Society.
Kathryn is survived by her husband, Roland Henik of Mount Vernon; son, John (Janice) Henik of Mount Vernon; daughter, Mary Ellen (Robert) Haesemeyer of Washington Crossing, Pa.; grandchildren, Joshua (Katlyn) Henik of Mount Vernon, Kara (Joshua) Gosiak of Marion, William Haesemeyer of Washington Crossing, Pa., and Katherine Haesemeyer of Washington Crossing, Pa.; and two great-granddaughters, Natalie and Josephine Henik.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David Cilek; and sister, Ellen Stout.
Special thanks are given to the Solon Nursing Care Center and the Memory Care Unit for the love and care given to Kathryn during her time with them.
Memorials in Kathryn's memory will be given to the Saints Peter and Paul Historical Society.
