Kathryn Gillette
KATHRYN GILLETTE
Brooklyn
Kathryn Deusler Gillette, 91, lost a ridiculously short battle with Father Time, who eventually wins all battles, and passed away quietly in her sleep March 9, 2017.
Kay was generous and quietly courageous, as all Midwestern women are. She was a common sight at the Methodist Church suppers, and an even better cook at home. Fortunate are those who received a handmade quilt as a gift she was a master at embroidery and needlepoint.
She also was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star and a longtime member of the Methodist Women's Club. A staunch Cubs and Hawkeyes fan, not only was she avidly involved in watching current sports, Kay could argue for or against players and coaches from generations back. She thoroughly enjoyed a good game of cribbage and basked in the glow of victory when she won.
Kathryn was born April 6, 1925, one of four daughters in Indiana. She grew up near her grandmother's farm in Mishawaka, with many aunts, uncles and cousins. She graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in 1946 with a degree in nursing that began a career which spanned 30 years and several states. Delivering babies was always her favorite blessing.
Kathryn married her love, Bert Gillette, in 1965 and lived in Brooklyn, Iowa, until a recent move to Arizona.
She leaves behind three children, Richard (Jennifer Horne), Kurt (Mary) and Diane (Susan Eppel); and three grandchildren, Milo, Donovan and Nichole Jack. She also leaves a sister, a nephew, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was very appreciative of the Morning Coffee crew, who would drop in to solve the world's problems. Thanks Tim, Bob, Jeff, Germaine and Debbie!
Mom was loved, and she will be missed.
She will be interred at a later date next to Bert in Forest City, Iowa.
