Kathryn Ann (Ferguson) Idoni
Dumfries, Va.
Kathryn “Katy” Idoni passed away on Aug. 15, 2022, from complications due to cancer. A memorial service will be held at the Montclair Country Club in Montclair, Va., on Sept. 25, at noon.
Katy was born on Dec. 15, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Bob and Marion Ferguson. The oldest of six, she graduated from Regis High School in 1964. She attended Mount Mercy College considering a religious life with the Sisters of Mercy. Her journey shifted with a move to Washington, D.C. to work for Iowa Congressman John Culver. She met and married Mario Idoni with whom she raised three daughters in Northern Virginia.
Katy’s love of history extended beyond a college major and served her well in her work in human resources, as personal secretary to Chief Justice Warren Burger, and as a legal secretary at McGuireWoods. She applied her strengths through her neighborhood HOA and as docent at Colvin Run Mill.
The matriarch of the family, Katy’s strength, wisdom and kindness were a compliment to Mario’s passion. Katy not only fell in love with Mario, she embraced his Italian language, culture and cuisine, welcoming his parents into their family home.
Katy was preceded in death by her husband, Mario; and parents, Bob and Marian Ferguson.
She is survived by her siblings, Jan, Marc, Mike, Nanci and Ann with their spouses; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family cherishes their memories, especially her daughters, Cristina (Matt), Mara (Bryan) and Vanessa (Brian); and grandchildren, Ethan, Briana, Bryan, Emma, Gwendolyn, Leah and Clara.
