Kathleen Kaye Wittmer, 73, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. A Celebration of Life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at Salem United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
Kathleen was born Nov. 28, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Lester and Maxine (Sproston) Mikulecky. She graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School, Class of 1960. Following high school, she received her nursing training at Mercidian School in Marshalltown. Kathy was united in marriage to Larry Edward Wittmer on Sept. 26, 1965, at Salem United Methodist Church. She worked as an LPN and unit secretary at Mercy Medical Center for over 27 years, retiring in 2002.
Kathy enjoyed traveling, scrapbooking, shopping and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Salem United Methodist Church.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Larry; children, Jeff (Lisa) Wittmer of Des Moines and Heidi (Terry) Dunlay of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Logan (Elaine) Wittmer, Spenser Wittmer, Lindsey and Brett Dunlay; one great-grandson, Fletcher Wittmer; her dog, Princess; her father, Lester Mikulecky Sr. of Maquoketa; her sister, Sharon Ernberger of Cedar Rapids; her brother, Lester (Chris) Mikulecky Jr. of Columbia, S.C.; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy or to Hall Perrine Cancer Center.
