Kathleen Postel, 86, died Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Anamosa Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where a parish vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Visitation will resume after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Surviving are eight children, Roy (Susana) Postel and Joe (Catherine) Postel, both of Chicago, Marty (Holly) Postel, Cedar Falls, Michelle (Dennis) Dirks, Coggon, Angie (Frank) Bertling, Wasilla, Alaska, David (Kelly) Postel and Lisa (Lynn) Mootz, both of Monticello, and Steve (Wendy) Postel, Polk City; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and her brother, Jack Evers, Rowley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; an infant son, Daniel Mark, on Dec. 1, 1970; a brother; and a sister.

Kathleen Marie Evers was born Oct. 17, 1931, in Castle Grove Township, Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Michael and Myrtle (Leonard) Evers. Kathleen attended school at Pleasant Hill, Temple Hill and Sacred Heart Catholic School in Monticello. She graduated from Winthrop High School in 1949. She worked at the grocery store in Winthrop and at Donovan's Cash Market in Dubuque. Kathleen married Harold Postel on May 8, 1957, in Winthrop, Iowa. Kathleen was employed at the Winthrop State Bank until 1960 when they moved to Monticello. Harold preceded her in death in September 1978. Kathleen worked at the hot lunch program at Sacred Heart School and in the church office. She also worked at Camp Courageous, Ferrall Drug Store and McNiell Hardware before retiring.
