KATHLEEN ROSE MILES
Hopkinton
Kathleen Rose Miles, warmly known as Kay to all who knew her, peacefully went home to Glory on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021. Kay had been ill for a short time, spending her last week surrounded by family and close friends.
Kay was born at John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa, on Dec. 27, 1938, to Clarence "Bud" T. and Hilda (Dandl) Smith. She completed her education in the Hopkinton schools. She married Norman L. Miles on Dec. 8, 1957, in the Hopkinton United Methodist Church. They farmed on the Miles Homeplace in the Buck Creek area until retiring from farming in 1988, then moved to the outskirts of Hopkinton. Kay worked as a home health aide for 31 years.
Kays family could always be assured of her love for them. Family and friends will remember how Kay shared her love of Jesus Christ by singing at many weddings and funerals over the years. It was important to Kay that people in her presence feel loved, known and well fed. She was a passionate baker, specializing in cookies. Kay was active in numerous community groups throughout her life and had a deep love for the community of Hopkinton, and its rich history.
Kay is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Norman of Hopkinton; daughter, Julie (Danny) Reth of Delhi; sons, Jason (Mary Kay) and Joel (Sue), both of Hopkinton; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ronald Miles; and sister-in-law, Mary Haigh.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Jean Marie; brother, Bob Smith; sister, Maryanne Melchert Urh; and grandson, Andy Reth.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at Goettsch Funeral Home in Monticello. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Lenox Campus gym with interment in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Masks are suggested but not required. The campus was a place that held a special spot in Kay's life.
