Kathleen Ann Hughes-Hoagland, 49, of Mount Vernon, died on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mount Vernon, by the Rev. John R. Flaherty. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the church, with a vigil service at 4 p.m. Burial: St. John Cemetery, Lisbon.

Survivors include her husband, David; children, Brittany (Thomas) Hogue, Victoria Hoagland and Jason Hoagland; mother, Rosalie Hughes; grandchildren, Aubrey and Jackson; siblings, Angela (Greg) Wink, Thomas Hughes and Stephen Hughes; her Babi, Maxine Miller; aunt and godmother, Shirley (Ed) Haley; aunt, Donna (Mike) Pratt; uncle, Ken (Evelyn) Garrett; and her godfather, Al Hughes.

Also surviving are her in-laws, David and Susan Hoagland; and sisters-in-law, Stacia Hoagland, Vicky Wieser and Theresa Mason.

Kathleen was born June 30, 1968, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Milton and Rosalie (Garrett) Hughes. She graduated from Cascade High School and then from Iowa State University in 1990. On March 14, 2003, she married David M. Hoagland in Anamosa, Iowa. Kathleen loved being a mother and a homemaker, as cooking, gardening and knitting were some of her favorite things. She enjoyed hiking, skiing and doing lots of activities with her children and grandchildren. Kathleen enjoyed vacationing in the Caribbean and visiting family and friends by traveling throughout the country. She also enjoyed sharing in the classroom with elementary school children, and also attending theater and symphony productions. Kathleen was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and served as a coach for the Mount Vernon Archery Club.

She was preceded in death by her father, Milton; and grandparents, Henry and Marcella Hughes, Owen and Estelle Evans, Babe Miller, and Paul and Georgia Hoagland.
