Kathleen “Kathy” Frances Etscheidt, 84, of Newhall, passed away after a brief illness with her family and loved ones by her side on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, St. Paul Catholic Church in Newhall by Rev. Jacob Dunne. Burial: St. Michael Cemetery in Norway, IA. A Rosary will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, at Teahen Funeral Home. Those not attending the Rosary may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home or after 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
Kathy is survived by her daughter, Sherri Etscheidt (Mark Hennessy) of Boulder, CO; sons, Michael Etscheidt (Shannon Lackey) of Houston, TX, and Daniel (Jamie) Etscheidt of North Liberty; grandchildren, Ryan Etscheidt of Newhall, Brittany Henry of Cedar Rapids, Morgan Etscheidt, and Dylan Etscheidt, both of North Liberty; great-grandson, Liam Henry of Cedar Rapids; sister, Carol (Gary) Lehman of Fairfax; brother, Leonard (Paula) Welsh of Swisher, cousin, Leah Highly of Fairfax; and several nieces and nephews.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Janet Miller.
Kathy was born on July 14, 1941, daughter of Leonard and Elsie Hasley Welsh in Iowa City. She attended Walford Elementary School and graduated Valedictorian from Walford High School in 1959. Kathy married Richard Etscheidt and together they had three children. For over 65 years, Kathy worked at Van Meter Inc. in the accounts payable department.
Kathy was a woman of family and faith and put much of her time into charity work. She was very involved in her grandchildren’s activities and enjoyed taking road trips with her grandson. Most of all, she loved spending time with her loved ones.
Memorials may be directed to the family for an established memorial fund.
Kathy’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Van Meter Inc. family and the wonderful staff at Mercy Hospital.
