Kathie King-Hoffman
Cedar Rapids
On Nov. 24, 2022, Kathie King-Hoffman’s journey around the sun has ended. She passed peacefully in her husband’s arms and surrounded by her family, after a very rapid illness.
Kathryn Eleanor King-Hoffman was born on Oct. 20, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, daughter of Donald and Barbara King. Kathie was united in marriage to Robert John Hoffman on Aug. 6, 1987. She worked several years in telecommunications and was a loving wife, great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and loved by everyone she met. Kathie was a volunteer at Cedar Rapids Community Schools helping with field trips, classroom activities, and more. Kathie was a proud supporter of veterans. She enjoyed participating in Linn County’s Annual Veteran Stand Down, where she served breakfast to homeless vets, and on Memorial Day, placing flags on Veteran’s graves. Kathie helped found and was a charter member of American Veterans Post 6 Ladies Auxiliary, serving as its first President, becoming Auxiliary’s first Life member. Kathie was happiest when she spent time with her family and friends traveling, camping, swimming, picnics, museums, holidays, and just being together. She held a special place in her heart for Debbie Rocarek, Laureen Hauptmann, and Linda Elliff.
Kathie is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters, Melanie and Kellie Hoffman; grandchildren, Amanda (Nick) Nugent, Joey (Lillie) Hoffman, Brooklynn and Dylan Gatewood; great-grandson, Caleb Nugent; mother, Barbara King; siblings, Don (Janice) King, Lorri (Don) Pate, Dan King, David (Niki) King, Diane (Rory) Smith, Doug (Skeeter) King; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald King; son, Jamie Hoffman; aunt, Arline Bonar; uncles, Fred Paradies and Tom King; and cousins, Patricia Righter, Lenard Bonar and Robert Paradies.
Funeral will be at St. Patrick’s Church, Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to American Veterans Post 6 Ladies Auxiliary, 700 Second St. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids assisted the family.
