KATHERINE WHETSTINE

Katherine Ann Whetstine, 51, died early Friday, July 10, 2015, as a result of injuries suffered when struck by a car while running in Wellman.
Kathy was the daughter of Raymond and Janet Kraft and born May 9, 1964, in Jackson, Mich.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joseph Kraft.
She is survived by her husband, Jeff Whetstine; two sons, Christopher Blomberg and Justin Hammett; stepdaughter, Mercedes Whetstine; and brothers, Mike Kraft and Tim (Roxane) Kraft. She also was the loving mother of her bulldog, Lucy, and two cats, Myles and Mya.
Kathy was a proud, active and energetic person. She worked for many years as a supply chain manager in the automotive industry in Michigan and Tennessee before moving to Iowa in 2014.
Always physically active, she had begun participating in races in recent years and had completed many 10Ks and half marathons. She was training for her second marathon when the accident occurred.
A celebration of life is planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 18 at Parkside Community Center, 525 13th St., Wellman. Lunch will be provided.
Contributions to Kathy Whetstine's memorial fund will be used to help fund a walking/running trail in the area she was running when the accident occurred. Checks should be written to Jeff Whetstine with Kathy Memorial Fund written in the memo section. Contributions may be sent to Powell Funeral Home, PO Box 169, Wellman, IA 52356.
