KATHERINE M. "KATHY" WILLIAMS
Eau Claire, Wis.
Katherine M. "Kathy" Williams died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Jan. 3, 2019, at HeatherWood Assisted Living in Eau Claire, Wis., her home for the past five years. She was 95 years young.
Kathy was born Sept. 25, 1923, in Humboldt, Iowa, to Lawrence and Esther Lindhart and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1941. She married the love of her life, George "Geo" Williams on April 11, 1944, in Elmore, Minn., when they eloped while Geo was on leave from the U.S. Navy.
Kathy worked for 26 years as the office manager in the department of neurology at the University of Iowa Hospital. She retired in 1986 and moved to San Diego. She moved to Eau Claire in 2014 following her husband's death. She was an avid Hawkeyes fan and sports enthusiast. She enjoyed playing Cribbage any time she could find an opponent (and generally won). There always was chocolate available when anyone came to visit, always her favorite.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Franny, Ruth and Dorie; and one brother, Norman.
She is survived by three children, Mary K. (George) Swenka, Tiffin, Iowa, Beth (Ed) Hicks, Eau Claire, Wis., and Joe (Paula Fabbie) Williams, Highland, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Kathy's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on March 15, 2019, at Fort Rosencrans National Cemetery, Point Loma, Calif., where she will be interred with her husband.
The family would like to send a special thank you to HeatherWood Assisted Living for providing a welcoming and loving home for the past five years and to Mayo Clinic Home Health & Hospice for the care Kathy received in the final days of her life.
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Kathy may be made to the non-profit of your choice.
