KATHERINE "KAY" ERENBERGER

Katherine "Kay" Erenberger, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center. Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 22, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with burial to follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Brosh Chapel.
Katherine was born July 11, 1934, in Iowa City, the daughter of Homer and Madeline (Stollenwerk) Pennington. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School and as well as earning an accounting degree from Iowa City Commercial College. Kay was united in marriage to Vernon Erenberger in 1951. Kay was a member of First Presbyterian Church near Ely and a was a former elder in the church. She sang for many weddings in the areas as well as various places. On a trip to Branson, they pulled her out of the crowd, and she sang on stage with the Osmonds. She also enjoyed painting and took a few lessons from Ed Bruns, a once close friend of Grant Wood. Kay retired from JC Penney after 34 years, where she was the personnel supervisor at the old store on Second Street and as office supervisor and credit/catalog manager at Westdale. She was named Woman of The Year at a tribute to Women and Industry of Cedar Rapids in 1983.
Kay is survived by her children, Vernon Douglas Erenberger, and daughter, Suzanne Kay Hendrickson; grandchildren, Timothy (Angela) Erenberger, Amy Erenberger, Joseph (Lydia) Erenberger, Anthony (Geordie) Erenberger, Angela (Steven) Tipton, Ryan (Elizabeth) Hoagland, Samantha Erenberger and Josh (Sonia) Erenberger; many great-grandchildren; her sisters, Beverly Lynch and Gloria (Jim) Fisher; and her sister-in-law, Beverly Erenberger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon; her son, Brad Erenberger; grandson, Matthew Hoagland; sisters-in-law, Ruth Erenberger and RaeJean Erenberger; and brothers-in-law, Richard Achenbach, Willard Lynch, Donald Erenberger, Kenneth Erenberger and Robert Erenberger.
