Kathe Goldstein, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died July 3, 2015, at Cottage Grove Place after a 17-year struggle with multiple myeloma. The daughter of George and Sylvia Kalnitsky, Kathe was born Aug. 19, 1945, in Chicago, Ill., and grew up in Iowa City, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband, Gary; a son, Alan; a daughter, Chava; and two grandchildren, Natanel and Ayala, whom she loved with all her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert; and an infant son.
Kathe graduated from U-High in 1963 and received her bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Iowa. She married Gary on June 16, 1968. They recently celebrated their 47th anniversary. She taught Spanish for 30 years at Marion High School and was named to the Marion Foundation Hall of Fame. She was a fierce supporter of the Iowa Democrats and national Democratic candidates working tirelessly for their campaigns.
Kathe was an integral member of Temple Judah, singing as cantorial soloist for the last 11 years. She gifted her "voice of an angel" each Friday evening, showing her passion to her faith and her dedication and warmth for her community.
As a devoted mother and grandmother, she gave her children and grandchildren an outpouring of love, generosity, patience, hope, joy and wisdom. Family always came first.
Throughout her life pursuits she radiated goodness and light, shown a strength of character and became a role model and articulate force for change.
