Bruce Lee Karr, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 3 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be Friday from 4 until 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Simeona A. Karr; his children, Keely C. (Randy Pettit) Smith of Cedar Rapids, Kristopher C. (Karie) Karr of Fort Dodge and Kurt C. (Joyce) Karr of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Clarice Lilja of Pea Ridge, Ark.; a brother, Keith (Phyllis) Karr of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Jeff Smith, Ashley Smith, Ryan Smith, Dylan Karr, Sydney Karr, Jarred Karr, Brooklynn Karr and Ty Karr; and great-grandchild, Jorri Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Bruce was born Nov. 20, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Vera (Hepker) Karr. He married Simeona Amable on June 25, 1988, at the Little Brown Church in
Nashua. Bruce was owner-operator of several service stations in Cedar Rapids.
He was past president of the Iowa Gas Dealers
Association. He loved sports. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, where he was a highly regarded football player and active in the marching band. Bruce was a winter speed skater, winning several awards, and raced stock cars with his brother, Keith, for a short time at Hawkeye Downs. He was also a dedicated Iowa Hawkeye, Chicago Cub and Bears fan.
His family and friends were important to him. Bruce treasured time spent with them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
