Karla Jo (Crippen) Jones, 57, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away as the result of a serious stroke, on Friday, Dec. 10, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. She was born on Oct. 12, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Dale and Grace (Stimson) Crippen. Karla was raised
and educated in Cedar Rapids and was a 1983 graduate of Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School.
After graduation, Karla worked as a bartender at Rumors and May City Lanes. She also worked as an assistant manager at Arby's. In 2006, Karla met Paul Kaness. The couple resided together in Cedar Rapids. Karla graduated from Kaplan and worked for H&R Block, Trans American and Tata Consultancy Services.
Karla was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and NASCAR fan. She enjoyed many kinds of sports. Karla and Paul enjoyed riding their motorcycle together during the summertime. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts, especially painting. Karla loved her German shepherd, Sal.
Survivors include her parents, Grace and Dale Crippen of Manchester; her partner, Paul Kaness of Cedar Rapids; a stepson, Kyle Kaness of Des Moines; one sister, Kathleen Crippen of Marion; a nephew, Travis Crippen of Strawberry Point; a niece, Saysha (David) Valandingham of Marion; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews.
Karla was preceded in death by her sister, Karen Klinefelter.

Memorial service: noon Thursday, Dec. 16, at The Stone Church in Manchester, Iowa, with Pastor Joe Camp officiating.
