Karena Jean Hynek, 37, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, May 18, 2014, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Celebration of Life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in St. Patrick's Cemetery, near Fairfax.
Karena was born Sept. 25, 1976, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Steve and Katrena (Glass) Hynek. She graduated from Prairie High School in 1995. She
enjoyed the Chicago Bears, all football, reading, going to garage sales with mom buying things for everyone else, watching movies and spending time with her friends at Ernie's.
The past nine years she battled cancer and was determined to overcome. She had a heart of gold and will be greatly missed. She loved spending time with family, nieces, nephews and her two loving sons.
Karena is survived by her two sons, Mitchell and Austin Molitor of Cedar Rapids; her
parents, Steve and Katrena Hynek of Fairfax; Jeremy (Jen) Hynek of Fairfax and Keith (Liz) Hynek of Iowa City; nephews, Tyler, Gage, Dalton, Davin and Caleb; nieces, Lauryn and Maya; and her aunts, Dixie (Dave) Mitchell of Marion, Robin (Mike) Cimprich of Cedar Rapids and Nancy (Bill) Bolt of Traer.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Norma and Paul Clark and Charles and Elsie Hynek; and uncles, George Richard Glass and Vernon Hynek.
