Karen R. Loeffler, 74, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, December 15, 2024. Karen bravely fought a long and courageous battle with Scleroderma. A private family gathering will take place on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. A celebration of Karen’s life will be held in the spring of 2025 at the Moose Lodge in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Teahen Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family.
Born on April 26, 1950, in Manchester, Iowa, Karen was the daughter of Edith Lammers and Ambrose Bildstein. She was the oldest of seven children and took pride in her role as a loving sister. Karen married Dennis Loeffler on November 25, 1972, in Petersburg, Iowa, and together they raised two sons, Joshua and Zachary.
Karen dedicated her career to serving others as a supervisor for the Department of Human Services in Linn County. Outside of work, she found joy in playing golf, traveling — particularly on her cherished "sister trips"— and spending quality time with family and friends. Karen’s vibrant personality and infectious spirit made her the life of the party. Known for her thoughtfulness, generosity, and unwavering positivity, she formed meaningful connections with everyone she met. Karen was a fun, spunky, and loving woman who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Karen leaves behind her devoted husband of 52 years, Dennis Loeffler, and their two sons: Josh (Lisa) Loeffler of Ankeny, Iowa, and Zach (Tara) Loeffler of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was a proud and doting grandmother to four grandchildren: Riley and Sophia Loeffler, and Liam and Zoey Loeffler. Karen is also survived by her siblings: Dee Smith, Ken (Mely) Bildstein, Deb (Steve) Siegworth, Leslie (Ron) Brimeyer, and Wayne Bildstein, a sister-in-law Marcella Loeffler, as well as many nieces, nephews, and a beloved aunt, Helen Rodenberg.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Barbara; her in-laws, Dwight and Maxine Loeffler; and her brother-in-law, Doug Loeffler.
The Loeffler family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, especially Dr. Ann Soenen, nurses, and caregivers who provided exceptional care to Karen over the years. Special thanks to Hospice for their compassionate support.
Karen’s warmth, kindness, and vivacious spirit will forever be remembered by all who loved her. Rest in peace, Karen.
