Karen Anne (Person) Petersen, 72, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018. A private family graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery for both Karen and her husband, Tom, at a later date.
Karen Anne Person was born June 15, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of C. Edward ( Eddie) Person and Mary Louise Scriven Person. She graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School in 1964. On April 24, 1965, Karen married Thomas Wayne Petersen at Grace Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids.
Karen worked in the publishing industry for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, bowling, shopping and going to the casino with Tom and her parents.
Karen is survived by children, Peggy Ann Cross (Scott), Mark Thomas Petersen (Molly) and Wendy Lynne Petersen (Tommy, who helped with doctors appointments). Grandma Karen's grandchildren include Jacob Thomas Petersen, Ethan David Edward and Anna Marthina Elizabeth Cross, Emma Josephine, Max Thomas and Eddie Mark Petersen. In addition, Karen is survived by her brother, Dennis Edward Person; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Novak; brother-in-law, Jim Petersen (Shirley); and various nieces and nephews. Karen also is survived by special and dear friend, Linda Wordehoff.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, in 2005, parents, Eddie and Mary Person; beloved grandmother, Anna Marthina (Magnusson) Person; in-laws, Otto Thomas and Margaret (Usher) Petersen; sisters-in-law, Peggy Joann Petersen, Marlene Hooper, Virginia Steggall and husband Bill, and Evelyn Hollingsworth; and niece, Kari Kay Person.
Memorial donations may be made to Oak Hill Cemetery Association.
