Karen is survived by her husband, Jerry; two daughters, Kimm (Jeff) Unkrich of Cedar Rapids and Kristy (Greg) McCusker of Smyrna, Del.; four grandchildren, Breanne and Janelle Unkrich of Palo and Kylie and Sean McCusker of Smyrna; a great-grandson, Cohen Unkrich of Palo; her mother, Viola Zenisek of Hiawatha; a sister, Shir-Lee Miskimen of Cedar Rapids; and a brother, Tom (Connie) Zenisek of Hiawatha.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, John; and her infant brother, Dennis.
Karen was born May 27, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John and Viola Stransky Zenisek. She graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1958. She married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Langfitt, on Sept. 16, 1961, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Karen began her career as a bookkeeper at Standard Appliance and she was a secretary at LaSalle High School. Karen held various administrative positions in Marion, Ohio; West Chester, Penn.; Aurora, Neb.; and Vandalia, Ohio. Karen adored children and was most proud of the care she provided to the babies at River Ridge Kids, which she was able to do when she and Jerry retired back home in Cedar Rapids in 2002. She was a member of the National Catholic Order of Foresters.
Karen loved spending time with her family, taking care of babies and she truly enjoyed butterflies and birds of all kinds. She enjoyed couponing and shopping for a bargain, but she will be most remembered for her incredible giving spirit and her generosity to everyone she knew.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
