KAREN JOY ELLIS
Charles City
Karen Joy Ellis died on Sept. 20, 2021, while in care at Hospice in the Good Shephard Nursing Home, Mason City, Iowa. She was born in Charles City on April 5, 1947, to Charles and Olive Kubicek Ellis. She was the baby sister to Patti and Bonnie. After graduation from the Charles City High School, she attended college but found that was not for her. Cedar Rapids had the character and ambience that was a fit. After a lengthy career at a manufacturing plant, retirement beckoned and she gave up the apartment where she had lived for over 40 years with two successive long-term partners and returned to the city of her birth.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Patricia Weiss.
Her sister, Bonnie Miller of Seattle survives her as well as her two nieces in Charles City, her niece in Yakima, Wash., and her nephew in Arcata, Calif. She was a favorite aunt and gales of laughter rang throughout the house when the rag-tag gang gathered. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Per her request, no memorial service will be held.
