Karen Kay Bachman,
67, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, May 10, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Services at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethany Lutheran Church. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Survivors include her husband, Allan; a son, David (Deanna) of Urbandale; a daughter, Andrea of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Gloria (Larry) Smith of Fremont, Neb. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Bryce, Luke and Olivia.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Karen was born on Nov. 8, 1947, in Westgate, the daughter of Ernest and Louise Pleis Reiter. She married Allan C. Bachman on Feb. 14, 1970, in Westgate. Karen worked for ophthalmologist Dr. Clifford Hendricks for more than 40 years and at Arcade Opticians/A Perfect Pair for 20 years.
Karen was a faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She had been a PTA volunteer and was on the board of the Friends of the Cedar Rapids Library. She enjoyed first and foremost her family and friends, especially the time spent with her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking and baking, and was famous for her chocolate chip cookies. Karen was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and she and Allan were season ticket holders for Iowa Football for over 45 years. She also enjoyed going shopping with friends and her daughter, Andrea, as well as gardening.
Karen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial donations may be given to the Friends of the Cedar Rapids Library, Bethany Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
