Kaplan, Gerald 'Jerry' Lee
Gerald “Jerry” Lee Kaplan, 70, of rural Shellsburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at home following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth St., Vinton, by the Rev. Duane Wilcox. Interment: Parker's Grove Cemetery, rural Shellsburg. Military rites by Ray and Virginia Boyer American Legion Post 166 and Iowa Military Funeral Honors. Visitation: Friday from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Jerry worked at Square D in Cedar Rapids, retiring after 37 years of service; following his retirement he worked as a security guard for The Meth-Wick Manor.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Eileen of Shellsburg; three daughters, Phyllis (Eric) Judas of Shellsburg, Brenda (Gary) Allison of Niles, Mich., and Julie (Kip Wieland) Kaplan of Cedar Rapids; one son, Dennis (Nichole Hackett) Kaplan of Shellsburg; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Philip (Kathy) Kaplan, David Kaplan and Paul (Michele) Kaplan, all of Cedar Rapids, and Patrick (Anita) Kaplan of Marion; and sisters, Linda Kaplan of California, Mary Sue (Edward) Butler of Ohio and Jeannie (Larry) Kaplan of Des Moines.
In addition to his parents Jerry was preceded in death by his stepmother, Helen Kaplan, brothers, Robert and Daniel Kaplan; and a sister, Phyllis Kaplan.
