Kaiser, Paul Lee
Paul Lee Kaiser went to be with the Lord on March 11, 2013.
Paul was born Aug. 1, 1936, to Helmer and Evelyn (Ferden) Kaiser in Rolfe, Iowa. Paul graduated from Rolfe High School in 1954 and from Buena Vista College in 1958, with a degree in education. He graduated from the University of Omaha-Nebraska with a master's degree in counseling in 1960 and received his doctorate in education from Nova University in 1981. Paul spent several years in education at Treynor, Iowa, where he was a teacher and football coach. He was a guidance counselor at North High School in West Union for five years. He later took a position at Area One (now known as Northeast Iowa Community College) in Calmar, where he served in several capacities, including vice president and interim president. His career at Northeast Iowa Community College spanned 25 years. He completed his professional career as an insurance counselor for the Knights of Columbus from 1989 until his retirement.
Paul was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, along with being an active member of Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union.
On Dec. 27, 1961, Paul and Therese (McDonald) were married at St. Patrick's Church in Council Bluffs. From this union four children were born: Kathie (Chris) Lampe, Bellevue, Marty (Marianne) Kaiser, Rockton, Ill., Peggy (Brent) Ohl, Eldridge, and Joe (Francesca) Kaiser, Ely.
Paul loved to follow all of the activities of his grandchildren, Matt Lampe, Sam Lampe, Anna Lampe, Sarah Lampe, Nathan Kaiser, Tom Ohl, Charlie Ohl, Rachel Kaiser, and special grandson, Joey Kaiser.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Therese; four children; eight grandchildren; and his brothers, Glenn, Gary, Lee and Kurt.
Paul was preceded in death by his grandson, Joey; his parents, Helmer and Evelyn; and his brother, Greg.
The family would like to thank the staff at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics 2JCP East for their exceptional care of Paul, as well as the staff at Manor Care and Heartland Hospice in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union, with the Rev. Dale Rausch officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, rural West Union. A public visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday, with a rosary service starting at 4 p.m., at Burnham-Wood & S.K. Rogers Funeral Home in West Union.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to North Fayette Activities Department, Attn: Barb Schroeder, 600 N. Pine St., West Union, IA 52175.
Burnham-Wood & S.K. Rogers Funeral Home in West Union is in charge of the arrangements.
