Kahler, Patricia 'Patty' Faye (Kapfer)
Patricia “Patty” Faye (Kapfer) Kahler, 73, of Oxford, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Mercy Iowa City following a long illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Parish Hall, 133 E. Main St., Oxford, with the Rev. Ed Dunn officiating. Private burial will be at Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Parish Hall in Oxford and after 9 a.m. Wednesday. A vigil service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Iowa City Hospice.
Patty was born June 2, 1936, in rural Johnson County, Iowa, to Louis and Clara (Volk) Kapfer. She was raised in Oxford. She married Robert Kahler on Nov. 26, 1955, in Oxford. They moved to Coralville, where Patty worked for the University of Iowa for 26 years, retiring in 1989. Patty and Robert moved back to Oxford in 1993. Patty enjoyed camping and was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society at St. Mary's Church.
Patty is survived by her husband, Robert of Oxford; a daughter, Becky Steele (Brian) of Ely; two grandchildren, Melissa Etheredge (Steve) of Wellman and Brian Dolezal of Oxford; and six siblings, Louis Kapfer of North Liberty, Pete Kapfer of Cedar Rapids, Tom Kapfer of Illinois, Richard Kapfer (Carol) of Orange Park, Fla., Mary Marks (Roger) of Cedar Rapids and Judie Behrens (Bill) of Forest Hill, Md.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Joyce Brack; in-laws, Henry and Rosie Kahler; nieces, Daryl and Marcy Marks and Susan Wille; and nephew, Dan Brack.
