June Elizabeth Schultschik, 97, died peacefully Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at her home in Cedar Rapids. In accordance with her plans, a private family service was held, followed by the arrangements of
Iowa Cremation.
June was born June 21, 1916, in Marshalltown,
Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Faith Leaf. June was the oldest of 10 children. She graduated from West Branch High School in 1933. June was united in marriage to Rudolph J. Schultschik on March 1, 1940. During World War II, she aided the war effort by working in local manufacturing jobs while her husband served 44 months in the Pacific Campaign. June and "Rudy" lived their retirement years in Spring-dale, Ark., before returning home to Cedar Rapids in the early 1990s.
June's hobbies included knitting, crocheting, needlepoint and woodworking. June was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids.
June is survived by a son, Richard (Karen) Schultschik; three grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer) Schultschik, Christine (Marc) Banks of Cedar Rapids and Rebecca Horak of Williamsburg; and seven great-grandchildren, Keegan and Clayton Schultschik, Austin, Mason and Ethan Banks and Cassandra and Cheyenne Horak. She also is survived by three sisters, Shirley Norris, Virginia Ferreira and Helen Collins, all of California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rudolph; a son, David Scott;
a daughter, Merry Jo Horak; a granddaughter, Erin Horak; one
sister and five brothers.
Mom's wish would be that instead of flowers, you would make a donation to your favorite food bank, The Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity.

The family of June E. Schultschik would like to gratefully acknowledge those who have helped Mom live her last years with dignity and independence. They include: Dr. Alberts and staff, Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids; the staff and residents of Manor Care Health Services in Cedar Rapids; Therapy Solutions, with a special thank you to Gina and Marlene, who have assisted in the care of all four of our parents; the staff and residents of 5 Seasons Apartments; the staff of Home Instead, especially Christie and Nancy; and all of those involved with Pastoral Care at Christ Episcopal Church, and in particular, Joyce Conley, whose daily visits were a constant source of joy and inspiration to Mom.

family.
