Julie Baarstad Michels, 44, passed away unexpectedly in Maricopa, Ariz., on March 9, 2014.
She was born in Bismarck, N.D., on Nov. 13, 1969. She attended school in Bismarck and graduated from Century High School and the University of Mary. After college, Julie moved to Phoenix, where she had been living since 1995. While in Phoenix, she met and married her best friend, Jeff Michels, on Aug. 15, 2009. She loved Jeff and her stepdaughter, Ashley Michels.
Julie loved her family, her friends and her three dogs.
She had the kindest heart and would do anything for her family and friends. Julie was especially close to her uncle, Fred, who would always greet her as "his favorite niece." She loved to quilt and to plan trips to Iowa to see her husband and to Bismarck to see her uncle.
Julie was preceded in death by her mother, Meredith Baarstad, and father, Robert Baarstad.
She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Michels of Independence, Iowa; stepdaughter, Ashley Michels of Denver, Colo.; her uncle, Fred Anstrom of Bismarck, N.D.; and her sister, Lore Baarstad of Eden Prairie, Minn.
A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Horizon Presbyterian Church, 1401 E. Liberty Lane, Phoenix.
