Julie Ann (Syndergaard) Leckrone was called to Heaven on June 6, 2015. She died at Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, Ariz., following a five-month battle with cancer.
Julie was born June 1, 1966, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Dale and Dorothy (Rouse) Syndergaard. She grew up and attended school in Marion, Iowa, graduating from Linn-Mar High School in 1984. She was baptized and confirmed in the First United Methodist Church in Marion.
She attended UNI and the University of Iowa before transferring to the University of Wyoming where she obtained a B.S. degree in nursing in 1990. She knew she was going to be a nurse when she was still in grade school. She worked as a surgical nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for five years before moving to Arizona in 1995, where she was a surgical nurse for several years at the Desert Samaritan/Desert Banner Hospital in Mesa, Ariz. She was also a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves for several years.
Julie married Matt Leckrone on March 9, 2005, in Maui, Hawaii. Julie and Matt have a daughter, Taylor, born Sept. 10, 2007.
Julie is survived by her husband and daughter, Matt and Taylor Leckrone of Mesa, Ariz.; her parents, Dale and Dorothy Syndergaard of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two brothers, Ken (Cindy) Syndergaard of Montross, Va., and Dennis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a sister, Jill (Mike) Pisarcik of Marion, Iowa; two nephews, Rob Syndergaard of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Matt Syndergaard of Montross, Va.; three nieces, Becca and Allison Pisarcik of Marion, Iowa, and Gracie Syndergaard of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Julie enjoyed hiking, bicycling, rollerblading and cooking. She ran marathons and hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon with her mother. She was diligent, giving and very hard-working. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
The memorial service was held on Sunday, June 14, at 1 p.m. at Dayspring United Methodist Church, 1365 E. Elliot Rd., Tempe, Ariz.
Arrangements were by Angels Cremation and Burial, 422 W. McLellan Rd., Mesa, Ariz.
