Julia Eileen Olander, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, April 17, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital of complications from a stroke. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, by the Rev. Phil Thompson. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home and Tuesday after 9 a.m. at the church.
Julia is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth (Farl) Greene of Cedar Rapids and Nancy (Don) Coffey of Highland Ranch, Colo.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, with one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Corliss; a son, James; and three brothers.
Julia was born Nov. 12, 1922, in Fairbank, the daughter of Irving and Elizabeth Burns Duffy. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in Fairbank in 1940 and from Dickinson Secretarial School in Waterloo. She married Corliss Edwin Olander on Aug. 28, 1943, at Sacred Heart Church in Oelwein. He died in 1989. She and Corliss had owned Parkview Motel in Oelwein for 18 years and then moved to Cedar Rapids, where she was employed by Armstrong's Department Store, and then Rockwell Collins before her retirement.
Julia loved Arizona, where she spent the winters, and enjoyed most of her summers in Iowa.
She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
