Julie Ann Tupker (Bissell) of Marion passed away Nov. 1, 2017, at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. The family would like to greet friends and relatives beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at Brosh Chapel & The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, followed by a Celebration of Life and Love officiated by the Rev. Norm Kelley of Marion beginning at 2 p.m.. Musical selections will include "Jesus Gentle Savior," a hymn composed by Julie's uncle, Olin. A light reception will follow the celebration. Interment will be at a later date in the Greenwood Cemetery in Cumberland.
Born April 21, 1952, Julie grew up on her parents' farm west of Cumberland. Julie graduated from Cumberland-Massena High School in 1970 as salutatorian of her class and with a love of music. She graduated from Iowa State University in March 1974 with a degree in distributed studies. Julie then moved to Cedar Rapids, where she worked as a mechanical drafter for FMC and Rockwell Collins.
On July 5, 1975, Julie married Allen Edward Tupker. She then began Julie Ann's Cakes, which she operated out of their home. For 29 years, she made wedding and special occasion cakes before retiring in 2013.
Julie is survived by her husband, Allen; their son, Michael (Kathleen); their grandsons, Robert Lawrence Tupker and Colin Edward Tupker; her mother, Deloris Ann Bissell; brother, Roger Bissell (Elizabeth); her mother-in-law, Eva Tupker; her sister-in-law, Julie Dobraska; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Julie in death were her son, Robert Edward Tupker; and her father, Eldon Keith Bissell.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston or consider donating blood at your local blood bank in her honor to help those still fighting their cancer battles.
